What you can explore
How much of a municipality is forest, farmland or water? Compare percentages and hectares, zoom in to inspect a land-cover type, and see the 2024 composition within a MARS project or sketch. The composition describes the landscape inside the boundary, not the project's effect.

The source is Basemap05 by Aarhus University / Gregor Levin: a combined map of Denmark's land-cover types in 2024. OpenLandData groups the types for municipality comparisons and displays connected areas on the local map. The source is pinned to Zenodo version 22197260 (31 August 2026), DOI 10.5281/zenodo.22197260. Methods are described in Levin (2025), DCE Technical Report 363. Areas are calculated from the source's original 10-metre grid in EPSG:25832; retrieval dates and checksums are retained with the source files.

Dataset fields
ecosystemCodeEcosystem class
The source code for a detailed land-cover type, such as coniferous forest or a lake.
groupIdLand-cover category
The broader map category, such as forest or farmland. Each location counts only once in the composition.
mappedAreaHaWhole derived patch area
The whole connected area of the same land-cover type, including any part outside the map view. Calculated from 10-metre cells before dividing the area for map display.
Limitations and responsibility
The reference year combines sources of differing dates. Groups describe mapped classes, not protection or ecological condition. Derived patches are connected raster cells, not cadastral parcels or fields. Municipal shares use the entire boundary area including water, unclassified and unavailable coverage. These are not official Statistics Denmark area accounts. Cannot be used for legally binding land-use decisions. The report's 62 categories and 1,880 combinations differ from the distributed tables' 60 and 1,874; the reason is undocumented.
