Understand the data

Crop diversity

A measure of how many crop groups are present and how evenly classified area is distributed among them.

Definition

OpenLandData shows an effective number of crop groups, calculated as exp(Shannon) on classified area. The value corresponds to the number of equally sized groups that would give the same diversity.

Why it matters

It measures crop distribution, not biodiversity, ecological condition or rotation on an individual field. Classification and grouping choices affect the value.
