Understand the data

PMTiles

A single-file format for serving many map tiles through byte-range requests.

Definition

PMTiles packages a complete tile set and its index in one file. A map client uses HTTP range requests to fetch only the index and tiles needed for the current view.

Why it matters

The format makes large static map datasets simple and economical to distribute without a traditional tile server. The file must be cached correctly and support byte ranges.
