Field block

A geographically continuous agricultural area bounded by relatively stable landscape features.

Definition

A field block is an administrative geographic unit containing one or more agricultural areas. Its boundary usually follows roads, streams, forest edges or other features that are more stable than annual field divisions.

Why it matters

Field blocks support administration and control of agricultural subsidies. They are not identical to individual fields and may change when the landscape or registration basis changes.
