Definition
Land data connects a geographic boundary, usually a polygon, with information about that area. This may include use, type, size, status, ownership or time. The term covers datasets such as agricultural fields, nature areas, cadastral parcels and planning zones.
Why it matters
Land data makes it possible to compare places, identify overlaps and follow change over time. Results still depend on how boundaries were measured and which point in time the dataset represents.
