Understand the data

Declared and mapped area

Declared area is a source value; mapped area is calculated from geographic boundaries.

Definition

An area field can reproduce hectares from a declaration or be calculated from polygons. Municipality figures allocate declared field hectares by spatial overlap. Nature and land-record layers measure their mapped area within municipality boundaries.

Why it matters

Methods, rounding, projection and overlaps can produce different figures. Overlaps count once in nature and land-record layers using union coverage. Read the area field’s explanation before comparing figures.
